Apple decides to launch a foldable iPhone with a book-like design and a high price:
Apple is planning to launch its first foldable iPhone with a book-like design in late 2026 or early 2027, at a hefty price tag expected to exceed $2,000, and possibly reach more than $2,500, making it much more expensive than other companies’ phones on the market. This foldable iPhone may be an “AI-powered iPhone.” Apple’s intelligence has not yet reached what was initially promised, but it may be enhanced with Apple’s foldable device. We can expect multimedia functions and integration between applications, and larger screens enhance AI experiences. For example, chatting with AI about travel plans while visualizing an entire map at the same time.
The phone will come with an internal screen measuring about 7.8 inches, free of wrinkles when folded, and an external screen measuring 5.5 inches. The thickness of the device will range between 9 and 9.5 mm when folded, and between 4.5 and 4.8 mm when opened. The body will be made of titanium alloy, with a hinge that combines stainless steel and titanium. The phone will include a dual rear camera, in addition to a front camera that supports use in both folding and unfolding modes.
The phone will not support Face ID technology, and will be replaced by a side button integrated with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in order to provide more internal space.
Apple is expected to officially begin development of the device in the third quarter of this year, with mass production starting in the fourth quarter of 2026, suggesting a possible launch in late 2026 or early 2027.
Apple may use iPadOS to provide a smooth user experience and multitasking.
Touch ID
It is the authentication method on this foldable phone, as Face ID may not be suitable due to the thickness and internal space limitations with the design, but the new feature may be present as a side button.
It may feature a dual camera setup, in addition to a single front camera available in both folded and unfolded states.
It could also be a slim phone that will be just 9-9.5mm thick when folded and 4.5-4.8mm thick when unfolded, and it may be called the iPhone Fold.
It is said to feature hinges made of stainless steel and titanium alloy, making it durable and beautiful as well, while the casing will be made of titanium for light weight and durability.
It will have the same high-density battery cells as the iPhone 17 Air.
One aspect that might justify the phone’s high price is Apple’s quest to provide a phone body design that keeps the screen smooth and free of curves, something that no company has yet been able to achieve completely.
The iPhone giant is also moving towards using titanium alloys in the phone’s body, and is considering incorporating a combination of stainless steel and titanium for some of the internal parts to ensure the phone’s strength while maintaining its light weight.
As for the battery, Apple is likely to rely on high-density battery technology, which is the same technology it is considering using with the expected iPhone 17 Air.
The phone may use advanced OLED displays that provide excellent picture quality and vivid colors.
Apple is expected to use high-quality materials such as titanium and stainless steel to ensure the durability of the phone and its hinges.
The phone is expected to be powered by Apple’s latest processor to ensure smooth and fast performance.
The phone may feature an advanced camera system that delivers high-quality photos and videos.
Apple is expected to take advantage of the phone’s large screen to deliver advanced AI experiences in multitasking applications.
The phone is expected to support the latest connectivity technologies such as 5G and Wi-Fi 6E.
The foldable iPhone is an expected step in the evolution of Apple phones, as it could combine powerful performance with innovative design to provide a completely new user experience. Although it has not been officially released yet, leaks and expectations indicate that Apple will provide a durable and high-quality device that outperforms competitors in terms of design, integrated software, and battery life. If Apple succeeds in overcoming challenges such as folding resistance, screen life, and high price, the foldable iPhone could be a qualitative leap in the world of smartphones, redefining the concept of foldable phones and attracting a wide segment of users.
