New features in the upcoming iOS 19:
As the release of Apple’s iOS 19 approaches, expectations are growing about the features and improvements that this update will offer to iPhone users.
Reports and leaks indicate that iOS 19 will witness fundamental changes including interface design, improvements to the camera application, and significant developments in the capabilities of the Siri voice assistant.
Complete redesign of the interface:
iOS 19 is expected to see a comprehensive redesign of the user interface, aimed at simplifying use and enhancing consistency across all Apple operating systems. These changes will include updates to the design of icons, menus, apps, windows and system buttons.
Some design elements will also draw inspiration from Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset, VisionOS.
These are the biggest updates since iOS 7 and are expected to be announced by Apple at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June 2025.
Camera app redesign:
The leaks suggest that the camera app will get a new design that focuses on providing a smoother and more efficient shooting experience. This will be done by introducing transparent menus for controls, allowing more space to display the scene you want to capture. The controls will be divided into categories for photos and video at the bottom of the screen, with access to options like spatial video recording and turning on the timer for taking photos. Video resolution and frame rate controls will also appear at the top of the screen when needed.
The most important expected changes
Simplified user interface
Shooting modes will be integrated into two main buttons, Photo and Video, with transparent menus for controls, reducing visual distractions and providing a more focused shooting experience.
Reorganize settings
Some settings, such as resolution, frame rate, and flash, will be moved to the top of the screen for easy access without affecting the display area.
Increase display area
The camera perspective will take up more screen space, giving the user a clearer view while shooting.
Developments in Siri voice assistant:
To enhance its ability to understand complex commands and interact more naturally with users (LLMs) in this new system, Apple was planning to make major improvements to the Siri voice assistant, by integrating it with large language models, making it closer to ChatGPT.
However, Apple faced technical challenges in developing these advanced features, which led to the postponement of the launch of the improved Siri. According to reports, these improvements were scheduled to be unveiled at the June 2025 conference, but are now expected to be delayed until the release of iOS 20 in 2027.
In addition, reports indicate that the rate of use of AI technologies in Apple devices is still low, reflecting challenges in user interaction with current features. Accordingly,
iOS 19 may not see major improvements in the field of artificial intelligence, as the company will focus on implementing previously announced features.
Currently, iOS 18.2 supports partial integration between Siri and ChatGPT and further integration with Google’s Gemini is expected to follow in later updates.
However, more advanced features may be delayed until iOS 19.4 in 2026.
Device compatibility with iOS 19:
Apple has announced iOS 19, which brings new improvements and features to iPhone users and is expected to support all devices that were compatible with iOS 18.
Which means older devices like the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone SE will still be compatible with the new update.
